Ophthalmology - Albinism and the eye

Visit www.ophthalclass.blogspot.com for the entire class and MCQs for undergraduate medical students. This video shows the eye of a patient with oculocutaneous albinism. The lack of melanin in the iris appears as a screening in slit lamp examination. The edge of the lens and the ciliary processes are seen through the iris. Other features include ocular nystagmus, foveal hypoplasia, defective vision and decreased visual acuity. The albino fundus is characteristicallydeficient pigment and is seen through with orange choroidal vessels.
