The White German Shepherd, sometimes referred to as only White Shepherd is a variant of the white-coated German Shepherd to breed. The white color has been a variation in the breed, as they the original development in the late 1800 by Max von Stephanitz. Their white coats are wrongly interpreted as a sign of albinism, but the genetic analysis has proven to be false. The white coat is indeed valid Color "by a recessive gene. In the 1930s,the Nazi Party took control of the breeding standards and practices in Germany. Under new scrutiny in disqualification and white coat German Shepherd White was not allowed to breed. Tries after World War II, a dedicated breeder, repopulate and rebuild the German shepherd breed again, but the existing breed standards have been maintained and a white coat variations are considered to be mistakes.

Today, many kennel clubs around the world continue to regard the whites areShepherd as a variant of the German Shepherd to breed, and most do not allow them to participate in conformation dog shows. However, the United Kennel Club in the United States at the White Shepherd declared a separate breed. While the white coat recessive gene is very rare, it is believed by some that the gene pool is important enough to justify the development and identification of White Shepherds as a breed. The conformation UKC standard states that should a White Shepherdpure white color, although off-white, cream and light brown colored layers can be accepted. The dog's nose and paw pads should be black.

Besides the obvious difference in color, are White Shepherd physically identical to the German Shepherd. White Shepherds can be excellent workers and make excellent sheepdogs and guide dogs. Unfortunately, as the white coat is a recessive gene, the gene pool that can be bred out of the White German Shepherd, is limited. As with every race, isDesigned for aesthetic preference to be able to work, the limited gene pool have a negative impact on the overall performance of the dog. It is for this reason that a White Shepherd has not required the nerves for work as a guard dog, or a true guard dog.
